New Building Design

Designing structural frames for new buildings is the principal expertise of our firm. In collaboration with architects, contractors, developers, and other various engineering professionals, the vision for a new building can come to life. New building design projects begin with proper studying and planning to ensure that the structural system developed meets the goals of the project and aligns with all trades involved. With ongoing improvements made to building materials and design codes, you can be assured that our staff remains on the forefront of current structural modeling techniques and building code requirements.

Renovations / Adaptive Re-Use

The process by which we develop and implement structural changes to an existing building or structure to modify or prolong its use and function to meet present-day needs. The initial steps in the renovation/re-use process include a structural assessment to determine the condition of the existing building, evaluate its structural capacity and identify what structural modifications will be required. With proper planning and execution, renovations and adaptive re-use allow for a building’s continued use and can result in cost savings, environmental benefits, and enhancing community character.

Condition Assessment / Feasibility

A condition assessment is one of the first and most important steps in a successful renovations project. This process typically includes the collection of data through means of visual observations, field measurements and both non-destructive and destructive testing. Based on the information obtained, our engineering team can evaluate the conditions of an existing structure and assess the condition of key structural elements provided. This assessment will help everyone involved in a project identify key elements that may need repair or further investigation to meet the project's goal. Once an assessment is performed, a detailed plan can be developed for economically addressing any areas of concern based on the observed conditions

Value Engineering & Peer Review

Value engineering is a systematic and organized approach that allows our engineers to review the necessary functions of a structure, identify critical design considerations and develop concepts for potentially lower cost alternatives that may be implemented. Along with reviewing our own designs, our value engineering work also extends to the peer review of designs performed by other engineers. By studying a building structure with a fresh set of eyes and identifying all major design considerations, an evaluation can be made for potential material substitutions or alternate means and methods for a simplified construction sequence, resulting in cost savings.

Shoring & Excavation

Shoring and excavation services are required on a majority of structural projects we encounter. During excavation, an effective design is required to ensure the safety of all personnel and equipment as well as to support any nearby adjacent structures that could potentially be affected. Our shoring design services are also utilized frequently on adaptive re-use projects where existing structures need to be temporarily supported during the renovation and modification of any structural elements. We draw on our extensive experience and a full range of techniques to provide optimal shoring solutions for each project.

Component Engineering

Component engineering includes the design of specific structural elements that would typically not be designed or detailed within a standard set of construction documents. These elements can include structural steel connections, load bearing and non-load bearing gauge metal walls, stairs, railings, and other architectural items that require structural stability. While typically not the most glamorous aspect of a project, component engineering that is introduced in order for a sturcture to meet its ultimate function.

Steel Connection Design

Steel connection design is essential for the construction of a safe and economical steel structure. Through the use of bolting, welding or a combination of the two, our team is highly knowledgeable and experienced in the latest software and design codes to provide the optimal connection, while acknowledging cost and ease of construction. Along with reviewing our own designs our work also extends to peer reviewing calculations performed by other engineers.
